The head of MTV Networks U.K. & Ireland is ankling after 20 years at the music station.
Michiel Bakker’s surprise news comes amid restructuring at the Viacom-owned company, which Thursday announced 250 job losses from its London-based operations in addition to the recent cuts back in the U.S.
“I have decided it is time to turn the music off and see where life takes me,” said Bakker, who leaves without another job lined up.
Bill Roedy, vice chairman, MTV Networks, said: “As one of the first employees of MTVN Europe, Michiel helped establish far-reaching distribution for MTV across the continent.”
Until a successor is appointed Heather Jones, senior VP music & comedy, and Richard Tan, senior finance & operations will assume Bakker’s responsibilities. Bakker’s exit follows a number of other high-profile departures from the music station’s London base in recent weeks.
