Mark Pitts has been upped to president of urban music for the Zomba Label Group.
The former senior VP will continue to identify new talent while supervising the artistic and commercial development of Zomba’s urban artists. The Zomba Label Group consists of the labels Jive, LaFace, So So Def, Verity, Volcano, Fo Yo Soul and Gospocentric. Artists include R. Kelly, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Kirk Franklin and Chris Brown.
Pitts is working on Usher’s follow-up to “Confessions,” Brown’s sophomore album and the debut of Darkchild/Jive Records’ artist Natasha.
Pitts got his start in 1992 with Sean Combs at Bad Boy Records. After a stint in management and at Arista Records, he joined Zomba in 2004 as an A&R exec.
