Woods leaves Oz film lobbying org

Former Variety scribe's future uncertain

SYDNEY — Ausfilm topper Mark Woods will ankle the international lobby agency at the end of his two-year contract in August.

The former Variety scribe and Irish Film Board exec doesn’t have a new gig confirmed.

During Woods’ term, Ausfilm increased its lobbying activities in Canberra, oversaw an increase in the rebate available to offshore productions from 12.5% to 15% and lobbied for the introduction of a new 15% rebate for post/digital/VFX (PDV).

Woods coined the PDV moniker to apply to the burgeoning animation and effects sector Down Under.

“It was supposed to be a lobbying term,” Woods said. “Now it’s being passed into law.”
