Russian president slams local 'Betty,' U.S. TV

“Ugly Betty” may be winning over auds globally, but don’t count Russian prez Vladimir Putin among its fans.

During a Kremlin huddle with his culture and arts council last week, Putin slammed the local version of “Betty,” “Don’t Be Born Beautiful,” which was last season’s biggest hit, along with all other imports.

Russian TV skeds are filled with U.S. crime dramas, reality skeins and telenovelas.

The prexy criticized TV bosses for “a common trend toward commercializing culture, which is not always oriented toward satisfying sophisticated tastes today.”
