Director criticizes superhero film's storyline

George Lucas, no stranger to barbs that his films have been lightweights, last week dismissed “Spider-Man 3″ as a “silly movie.”

“There just isn’t much there,” the helmer told Foxnews.com. “Once you take it all apart, there’s not much story, is there?”

While Spidey did wrest the record for biggest worldwide opening from Lucas’ “Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith,” the helmer clearly thinks his epic is more durable.

“People thought ‘Star Wars’ was silly, too,” he said. “But it wasn’t.”
