Awkward timing: Valenti on Imus

Memoir praises ousted personality

In Jack Valenti’s memoir “This Time, This Place,” just out, the former MPAA topper and White House aide shows plenty of appreciation for the likes of Kirk Douglas and Lyndon Johnson.

But thanks to the long lead times of publishing, the book also includes a passage heaping praise on ousted radio personality Don Imus.

Recounting an appearance on the Imus’ show and the response from passers-by afterward, Valenti wrote, “If I ever needed empirical evidence of Don Imus’s popularity, I had it now.”

Publisher Harmony Books, a division of Random House, said it had no plans to delete the reference in future editions.
