Nora Roberts’ “Angels Fall” won Book of the Year honors at Monday night’s Quill Awards.
The populist top category, determined by voters who visited a designated website, capped an evening of nearly two dozen kudos handed out to scribes ranging from Walter Isaacson to Amy Sedaris to Al Gore.
Reed Business Information, parent company of Variety and Publishers Weekly, and NBC Universal Television Stations co-sponsored. NBC O&Os and syndie buyers will air a one-hour broadcast on Saturday night.
Kudofest was held at the Time Warner Center in New York. Al Roker and his “Today” colleague Hoda Kotb hosted. Stephen Colbert put in a brief but characteristically droll appearance, wondering why the event was being televised rather than novelized, impugning Gore’s environmental cred and proclaiming himself “still angry at Homer for killing the oral tradition.”
Variety editor-in-chief Peter Bart joined Joan Allen to give Tony Gilroy the Variety Blockbuster Book-to-Film Award for the Jason Bourne trilogy.
Attendees and presenters also included Tina Brown, Dan Rather, Jonathan Groff, Brooke Shields and Gay Talese.
