Broadway-bound tuner “A Catered Affair” has booked the Walter Kerr Theater for its Rialto berth. New musical from scribe-thesp Harvey Fierstein and composer-lyricist John Bucchino begins previews there March 25.
Design team will include David Gallo (sets), Ann Hould-Ward (costumes), Brian MacDevitt (lights), and Dan Moses Schreier (sound).
Based on a Paddy Chayefsky teleplay and the subsequent 1956 feature about a family wedding, “Affair” stars Fierstein, Faith Prince, Tom Wopat, Leslie Kritzer and Matt Cavenaugh. Production, helmed by John Doyle (“Sweeney Todd”), tries out at the Old Globe in San Diego in September before heading for Gotham.
Tuner is produced by Jujamcyn Theaters (owners of the Kerr), Jordan Roth, Harvey Entertainment/Ron Fierstein, Richie Jackson and Daryl Roth. Broadway opening is set for April 17.
