'Marcy in the Galaxy' offered in spring
The 2007-08 season of Off Broadway theater troupe the Transport Group includes a new tuner co-written by Michael Patrick King (“Sex and the City”).
“Marcy in the Galaxy,” with book by King and songs by Nancy Shayne, is the spring offering for the troupe, which first will present “Crossing Brooklyn” by composer Jenny Giering (“The Mistress Cucle”) and writer-lyricist Laura Harrington.
“Brooklyn” follows the troubled relationship of a young couple, both school teachers, in the aftermath of 9/11. Show runs Oct. 19-Nov. 18, with a press opening set for Oct. 28.
“Galaxy,” skedded to run March 28-April 27 with an opening pegged for April 6, centers on a woman examining her midlife achievements while sitting in the Galaxy Diner in Manhattan. Last season King collaborated on a cabaret stage show, “At Least it’s Pink,” that got a run at Ars Nova in the winter.
Both productions will be helmed by Transport a.d. Jack Cummings III. The troupe won a 2007 Drama Desk for its body of work, including productions of the Michael John LaChiusa musical “First Lady Suite” and “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs.”
