The Comedy Festival and Ziddio.com have announced open submissions for the Andy Kaufman award, a $5000 prize for the comic who best carries on the legacy of the late “Taxi” star. “The Andy Kaufman award was created to perpetuate Andy,” explains Kaufman’s father Stanley. “I don’t want anyone to forget him.”
To further ensure that his memory lives on, the award includes an engraved set of conga drums.
Past winners of the four-year-old award include Kristen Schaal, a regular on HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords.”
Contestants are invited to submit a video up to five minutes in length on the http://www.ziddio.com Web site. From the submissions, TCF, Shapiro/West and the Andy Kaufman estate will choose eight finalists to compete on Nov. 16 at the Comedy Festival at Ceasar’s Palace.
