Stew’s rock musical keeps cookin’

Public Theater extends 'Passing Strange'

Favorable critical nods and healthy audiences have prompted the Public Theater to extend the run of composer-performer Stew’s rock musical, “Passing Strange,” by four weeks.

Written by Stew and Heidi Rodewald and created in collaboration with director Annie Dorsen, the semiautobiographical show chronicles a young African-American man’s journey from middle-class suburban Los Angeles to countercultural Amsterdam, Berlin and back. Limited run was originally scheduled to close June 3 but now will play through July 1.
