David Hyde Pierce has reupped with “Curtains,” extending his run in the Broadway tuner by six months. His stint in the show will now end Aug. 31, 2008.
Winner of a 2007 Tony for his lead role in the musical, Pierce is a major selling point for “Curtains,” whose ads have featured a prominent likeness of the thesp. Show has proved a decent if not spectacular performer at the B.O, reaping $27.7 million since it began Rialto perfs Feb. 27, last week grossing $480,700 and playing to crowds of about 75%.
In other casting news — which may combat rumors of the imminent closing of “The Drowsy Chaperone” — Cindy Williams (“Laverne & Shirley”) steps into “Drowsy” Dec. 11, taking over the role of ditzy Mrs. Tottendale (currently played by JoAnne Worley).
And Emily Skinner (“Side Show”) and Max von Essen (“Dance of the Vampires”) will join Harvey Keitel in “Jerry Springer — The Opera,” making its Gotham preem in a two-night-only concert perf at Carnegie Hall Jan. 29 and 30.
