The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center will close this summer’s National Playwrights Conference with a tribute to Lloyd Richards July 29.
Richards was head of the conference from 1968-1999. Although best remembered for his ties to August Wilson, he also helped develop the careers of other legit scribes including John Guare, Wendy Wasserstein, Athol Fugard and John Patrick Shanley.
Held on the theater center’s campus in Waterford, Conn., the afternoon will include tributes, videos and a barbecue. Event will be hosted by O’Neill founder George C. White.
