Fodor play kicks off Playwrights Horizons
Janel Moloney, Jeremy Shamos and Zoe Kazan are among the thesps to join Lois Smith in “100 Saints You Should Know,” the new play by Kate Fodor (“Hannah and Martin”) that kicks off the season at Off Broadway’s Playwrights Horizons.
Moloney (“The West Wing”) makes her Gotham stage debut as a church custodian with a teen daughter (Kazan, co-star of the New Group’s recent revival of “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”). Shamos (“Gutenberg! The Musical!”) plays the parish priest who is followed by Moloney’s character when he returns home to his mother (Smith, last seen in New York in a universally praised performance in “A Trip to Bountiful” at Signature Theater).
Rounding out the cast of “Saints” is Will Rogers, who has appeared in “Columbinus” in Gotham and in “dark play or stories for boys” last spring at the Humana Festival.
Ethan McSweeney (“The Best Man”) helms the production, which begins perfs Aug. 24 for a Sept. 18 opening.
