Medoff steps in U. of Houston post

Writer new teaching playwright this spring

Scribe Mark Medoff will take over this spring as teaching playwright at U. of Houston, stepping into a post previously filled by legit names Edward Albee and Lanford Wilson.

Medoff (“Children of a Lesser God”) begins his affiliation by teaching two classes, one on playwriting and one on producing new plays.

Playwright had a 1980 Rialto hit with “Lesser God,” which was turned into a 1986 pic. His most recent Broadway outing, “Prymate,” proved less successful, closing a few days after its 2004 opening.

Also on the UH theater faculty are Rialto producer Stuart Ostrow (“The Apple Tree,” “M. Butterfly”) and Houston Shakespeare Fest founder Sidney Berger. Albee taught at the university from 1989-2003; Wilson was affiliated from 2004-07.
