‘Lion King’ marks strong week

NEW YORK — Road receipts rose in Week 5 (June 25-July 1) as the 13-show slate gained a healthy 10.2% to $14,379,409.

“The Lion King” moved to a theater with a greater capacity this week and quickly made use of it, jumping $350,000 from its final week in Appleton, Wis. Part of the increase also comes from “Chicago”: The show reported all eight of its shows this week.

For the 20th week running, the third company tour of “Wicked,” in Los Angeles, was the highest-grossing show for the week, with $1,575,239.
