Actress cast for Fierstein, Bucchino effort
Leslie Kritzer has been cast in the Broadway-bound tuner “A Catered Affair,” Harvey Fierstein and John Bucchino’s new adaptation of Paddy Chayefsky’s 1955 tale.
Currently appearing in “Legally Blonde,” rising thesp Kritzer has gained attention in tuners including “The Great American Trailer Park Musical,” as well as for her Joe’s Pub act “Leslie Kritzer Is Patti LuPone at Les Mouches.”
Actress will play the bride-to-be in “Affair,” about a family wedding in the Bronx in 1953. Faith Prince (“Bells Are Ringing”) portrays the matriarch, while book writer Fierstein co-stars as the uncle. In the 1956 feature version of Chayefsky’s teleplay, Kritzer’s role was played by Debbie Reynolds, starring alongside Bette Davis and Ernest Borgnine.
Helmed by John Doyle, the $6.5 million legit version of “Affair” preems at San Diego’s Old Globe in September before heading for Gotham in spring 2008.
