Jacques Brel won’t be alive and well much longer — at least not in New York.
Off Broadway revival of tuner “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris,” which has run at the Zipper Theater since March 2006, announced it will shutter Feb. 25. Recent cast addition of “American Idol” alum Constantine Maroulis didn’t provide enough of a boost at the b.o. to keep the small-scale production going.
According to the producers, plans are afoot for a production at the Chocolate Factory in Lodon, along with North American incarnations in Boston, Cleveland, South Florida and Toronto.
Produced by Dan Whitten, Bob and Rhonda Silver, and Ken Grossman in association with Tiger Theatricals, “Brel” will have played 384 perfs when it closes next month.
