Actor replaces injured Carpinello in musical
Cheyenne Jackson rollerskates into the lead male role of the new Broadway tuner “Xanadu” on June 22.
Jackson (“United 93,” “All Shook Up”) takes the place of James Carpinello in the musical, which has been in previews since May 23. Carpinello injured his foot while rollerskating during a June 12 rehearsal. Since then his part has been played by understudy Andre Ward.
Originally skedded to open June 26, “Xanadu” has postponed its opening night, with the exact date still to be determined.
Based on the flop 1980 pic about a muse who inspires an artist and a former big-band leader to build a roller disco, “Xanadu” combines songs from the movie (“Magic”) with a new book by Douglas Carter Beane (“The Little Dog Laughed”). Christopher Ashley directs a cast that includes Kerry Butler, Tony Roberts and Jackie Hoffman.
