Off Broadway’s Irish Repertory Theater will receive the 22nd annual Jujamcyn Award, the $100,000 prize handed out by Jujamcyn Theaters, the owner and operator of five Rialto theaters.
The 19-year-old Irish Rep is dedicated to presenting new and classic drama by Irish scribes or by writers with Irish roots, including Sean O’Casey, J.M. Synge, George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Eugene O’Neill, Brian Friel, and Edna Walsh.
Theater’s current offering is a production of tuner “Meet Me in St. Louis,” which ends its extended run Feb. 18. Next up is the U.S. preem of “Defender of the Faith,” a play by Stuart Carolan set at the height of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Previous recipients of the Jujamcyn prize include the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, the Mark Taper Forum, and the New York Musical Theater Fest. Latest award will be handed out March 13 at Marseille restaurant in Gotham.
