‘High School’ rallies box office

Road Grosses

NEW YORK The road hit a 4% upgrade in Week 22 (Oct. 22-28), mostly accounted for by the return of numbers from “Mamma Mia!” to the 13-show slate. The total gross for the week was $12,670,768.

After a highly successful final week in Dallas, “The Lion King” played a six-perf week in its smaller Minneapolis venue, cooling its total gross by about $650,000.

“The Color Purple” fell more than $100,000 in San Francisco this week, continuing that show’s downward trend.

“Jersey Boys” in San Diego added a perf and $100,000; and while the Palace Theater is slightly larger than Rochester, N.Y.’s Auditorium Center, the nearly $300,000 jump for “High School Musical” is still pretty impressive.

The week’s biggest unassisted jump (more than $50,000) came from the touring production of “Wicked” in Boston, returning as the slate’s highest-grossing show with $1,563,458.
