Total world domination continues apace for “High School Musical,” the legit version of the smash Disney Channel telepic. “HSM,” already repped in the States by a domestic touring production, kicks off a U.K. tour in January.
Produced by Stage Entertainment in co-operation with Disney Theatrical Prods., the show begins in Bromley Jan. 23 and plans to visit more than 30 cities in Blighty, including Edinburgh, Wimbledon, Manchester and Glasgow. No London plans have yet been set for the production, which is helmed by Jeff Calhoun, director of the U.S. tour.
Storyline follows the budding romance between a nerd and jock when they both decide to try out for the school tuner. Stage version includes the telepic tunes that have helped drive the DVD and the soundtrack up the sales charts, along with two new numbers.
Meanwhile, “High School Musical 2” begins airing on the Disney Channel in August.
