‘High School’ helps bump road biz

Road Grosses

NEW YORK — The road continued uphill in Week 8 (July 16-22): The 14-show slate gained 10.3%, bringing it to $15,069,663.

The new inclusion of Disney’s “High School Musical” pushed the slate’s total up $772,248, accounting for more than half of the bump.

A few shows moved into larger venues, contributing to the rise in receipts: “Monty Python’s Spamalot,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Chicago” all played to bigger houses this week. The first company of “The Lion King” also resumed its normal eight-perf schedule from six last week, resulting in a B.O. jump of almost $150,000.

Once again, the Los Angeles production of “Jersey Boys” and the East Lansing, Mich., production of “Wicked” broke house records.

The third company tour of “Wicked,” in L.A., was the highest-grossing show for the week, continuing upwards with $1,643,927.
