Legit vet edited Back Stage 1961 to 1976

Charlotte Harmon a former editor of performing arts mag Back Stage, died in her Manhattan home on July 29. She was 96. 

She edited the weekly publication 1961 to 1976.

Under her maiden name, Charlotte Buchwald, she was a radio commentator and writer for WMCA and WNEW in New York. She was also producer-director of Chapel Playhouse in Guilford, and Clinton Playhouse also in Connecticut, where three of her plays were produced: “Sex Is Out,” “Strawberries in January” and “You Have to Be Crazy.”

She wrote two books, “Broadway in a Barn (1957) and “How to Break Into the Theatre” (1961) and served as a volunteer fund-raiser for The Actors’ Fund of America.

She was married to Broadway press agent Lewis Harmon for 67 years until his death in 2005. She is survived by her daughter, former actress Jill Harmon Boyles; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
