Cavenaugh set for ‘Catered Affair’

Actor will play opposite Fierstein

As Joe Kennedy, he slipped through Edie Beale’s fingers in “Grey Gardens,” but now Matt Cavenaugh will be getting married on two coasts in four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein’s new musical, “A Catered Affair.”

Cavenaugh will play opposite Fierstein, Faith Prince and Leslie Kritzer in the Broadway show, which will begin performances at San Diego’s Old Globe Theater Sept. 20 prior to its April 17 Rialto opening.

The ‘50s-era tuner will feature songs by John Bucchino and direction by Tony winner John Doyle (“Sweeney Todd”). The show is adapted for the stage from Paddy Chayefsky’s teleplay and Gore Vidal’s screenplay for the 1956 film.
