Show to hit Broadway on April 17

“A Catered Affair” has set a date, skedding its Broadway opening for April 17. New tuner from Harvey Fierstein and composer John Bucchino begins previews March 25.

Joining already-announced thesps Fierstein, Tom Wopat, Faith Prince and Leslie Kritzer are Philip Hoffman (“Fiddler on the Roof”), Katie Klaus (“Inherit the Wind”), Heather MacRae (“Falsettos”), Lori Wilner (“Fiddler”) and Kristine Zbornik (“Forbidden Broadway”).

Show will have readings in Gotham today, then later this summer will head off to San Diego, where the musical, helmed by John Doyle, kicks off the season at the Old Globe.

In New York, “Catered” will open at a Rialto venue owned by Jujamcyn Theaters, which is producing the show. Jujamcyn houses currently up for grabs are the Walter Kerr, where “Grey Gardens” closes July 29, and the St. James, which will host a holiday run of “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” that will close in January.
