ZDF presents sci-fi shorts at Berlin

German pubcaster to present Lem stories

COLOGNE — The Berlin Film Festival will feature a series of short pics based on stories by Polish science fiction author Stanislav Lem, courtesy of German TV channel ZDF.

The public broadcaster has produced six episodes of 15 minutes each based on the adventures of cheeky space traveller Ijon Tichy from Lem’s “Star Diaries.”

Tichy will be played by Oliver Jahn, who also wrote the script and directed, together with Dennis Jacobsen and Randa Chahoud.

The presentation is skedded for Tuesday at 3 p.m. in ZDF’s lounge at the Grand Hyatt. Lem died last year. His most recent major adaptation for film was Steven Soderbergh’s “Solaris,” which ran at the Berlinale in 2003.
