Lee, Vaillancourt nab rights to Spanish film
Writing team David A. Lee and Daniel Vaillancourt (“MTV’s Undressed”) have optioned the English-language remake rights to the 2005 Spanish-language feature film “Reinas” (“Queens”) from Warner Bros. Spain.
The original comedy revolves around a fictional mass same-sex wedding in Spain. The title refers to five mothers who set the stage for the event.
Lee said and Vaillancourt have wanted to write an American version of the pic since seeing it at Outfest in 2006. The couple were legally married in Canada in 2004 and who currently serve as co-vice chairs of the Writers Guild of America West’s Gay & Lesbian Writers Committee.
Lee and Vaillancourt are currently writing the feature adaptation of Neil Miller’s 2002 non-fiction book “Sex-Crime Panic” for Funny Boy Films (“Latter Days”).
