New international arm to debut at Cannes

Paramount Vantage has tapped Alex Walton to serve as VP of its new international sales arm, which makes its debut at the Cannes Film Festival.

Walton will oversee the new unit and report directly to Vantage co-prexy Nick Meyer, who formerly ran Lionsgate’s international sales division.

While Vantage will continue to distribute the majority of its international releases through Paramount Pictures Intl., having a sales operation will provide it more flexibility in reaching out to distributors.

Walton joins the studio specialty arm from HanWay Films in the U.K., where he was director of international sales. He handled sales for films including Woody Allen’s “Match Point,” Julian Jarrold’s “Becoming Jane,” Richard Linklater’s “Fast Food Nation” and Noah Baumbach’s “Squid and the Whale.”

Previously, he worked as a sales exec at IN-motion Pictures and Myriad Pictures.

Walton will relocate to Los Angeles from the U.K.
