Vollman to pinch hit for Paramount p.r.

Marketing exec to fill in for exiting Kirkpatrick

DreamWorks alum and top Paramount marketing exec Mike Vollman will step in and temporarily assume the duties of longtime exec VP of worldwide publicity Nancy Kirkpatrick, who has decided to exit the studio.

Senior VP of national publicity Eric Kops also has decided to depart to launch his own production shingle.

While Par is talking to outside candidates about replacing Kirkpatrick, the studio could also take the opportunity to reorganize its publicity department.

In addition to overseeing publicity, Vollman will continue in his current responsibilities as exec VP of field and integrated marketing. He arrived at the Melrose lot after the DreamWorks sale and reports to Par prexy of marketing Gerry Rich.

Kirkpatrick, who has been at the studio for seven years, intends to work as a marketing consultant. Her exact departure date from Par hasn’t been set, although she’ll likely stay until the end of awards season, running campaigns for “Dreamgirls” and “Flags of Our Fathers.”

Kirkpatrick’s pending exit marks another transition for Par topper Brad Grey’s administration, which was recently rocked by the abrupt exit of Gail Berman as prexy. Grey also has been fending off the ire of DreamWorks, which didn’t like being described by Grey as one of four Par labels, alongside Par proper, MTV Films/Nick Movies and Paramount Vantage.

Par prexy of worldwide marketing, distribution and homevid Rob Moore said Kirkpatrick has excelled at promoting a diverse slate of films that have included “World Trade Center,” “What Women Want,” “The Hours” and “Save the Last Dance.”

“To say she’ll be missed is an understatement,” Rich said. “Hopefully, she won’t stray too far from us.”

Kirkpatrick, who previously worked at Warner Bros., and Vollman have already begun the transition process.

Kops joined Par’s publicity department in July 2005. His contract was up in December, but he agreed to stay through the Oscars and continue working closely on the kudos campaign for “Dreamgirls.” He is forming shingle, Kops/Tunick Prods., with writer-director Joshua Tunick.
