Venice picks all-director jury

Inarritu, Campion, Verhoeven selected

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Jane Campion and Paul Verhoeven are among seven directors who will be on jury duty at the upcoming Venice Film Festival.

Rounding out the Lido’s jury panel are Gaul’s Catherine Breillat, Italy’s Emanuele Crialese and Rome-based, Turkish-born Ferzan Ozpetek. Jury prexy is two-time Golden Lion winner Zhang Yimou, as previously announced.

The Lido in a statement played up its rare choice of an all-director jury as a tribute to the fest’s 75th anniversary, since Venice also had an all-director jury for its 50th. The helmers are all Lido aficionados.

While Venice, which touts itself as the world’s oldest film festival, is celebrating its 75th anni, this will be its 64th edition because WWII and 1968 student protests forced it to skip a few years. Fest will run Aug. 29-Sept 8.
