Universal lifts Bret Johnson

Studio vet new exec VP of physical production

Universal has lifted Bret Johnson to exec VP of physical production.

Johnson will continue to work with filmmakers on all aspects of physical production, from budgeting and scheduling to hiring crews. He manages projects from pre-production through delivery.

Johnson supervised physical production on recent projects such as “Evan Almighty,” “American Gangster” and “Kids in America.” He’s preparing to do the same on pics such as “Frost/Nixon” and “The Mummy 3.”

Johnson joined U almost nine years ago as production controller. He was later upped to VP of production finance, then moved over to physical production as VP in May 1999.
