Tribeca, Tropfest team for shorts

Festival takes place September 23

Tropfest@Tribeca, modeled on Australia’s biggest short film competition, is coming to Gotham as a stand-alone shorts fest on Sept. 23.

Event, which made its debut as part of the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, is a partnership between Tribeca and helmer John Polson’s Oz-based short film festival Tropfest.

Sixteen finalists will be chosen to compete at the free, one-day event, to be held outdoors at the World Financial Center Plaza. Winner will take home the Target Filmmaker $10,000 cash prize and two round-trip tickets to Australia.

Following its parent fest’s rules, Tropfest@Tribeca filmmakers are required to incorporate a signature item, which changes annually, into their submissions. This year’s item will be “slice.”

All entries must clock in at seven minutes or less and be making their public screening debut.

A jury of actors and filmmakers to be announced at a later date will judge pics onsite.

Fest is accepting submissions through Aug. 10.
