TLA takes a trip to ‘Boystown’

Specialty distributor acquires rights to comedy

U.S. specialty distributor TLA Releasing has acquired all theatrical, homevideo, TV and video-on-demand rights for North America and the U.K. to Spanish neighborhood comedy “Boystown” (aka “Chuecatown”), directed by Juan Flahn and sold by Filmax Intl.

Sale was finalized at the American Film Market.

“Boystown” will be released later this year through the TLA Releasing label.

A boisterous comedy full of eccentric characters, “Boystown” turns on the machinations of Victor (Pablo Puyol), a real estate agent who murders older women who own apartment buildings in Madrid’s Chueca neighborhood. He’s looking to bring in gay couples and turn Chueca into a “gayborhood.”

Vet actress Rosa Maria Sarda plays a police inspector on Victor’s case.

Deals continue TLA’s strong relations with Spanish filmmaking, especially on broad comedies and edgier or gay-themed pics.

TLA released both “20 Centimeters,” sourced from Sogepaq, and “Bear Cub” theatrically in the U.S. This summer, it took U.K. video and TV rights to sex musical “The Two Sides of the Bed” and Alex de la Iglesia’s hit black comedy “Ferpect Crime.”
