Penn, Nga to write 'Heavenly' story

Tiny Dancer Films has optioned life rights from band the Heavenly States with the aim of developing comedy feature “Rock the Casbah,” based on the band’s attempt to tour Libya in 2005.

Adam Penn and Jawal Nga will pen the script, with Nga producing through his Gotham-based Tiny Dancer Films banner. Nga is a native of Libya, and Penn recently won Script magazine’s Open Door Screenwriting Contest with his script “The Catch.”

“The Heavenly States attempted something that no Western band has done before, and having grown up in Libya, I have the ability to appreciate the great humor in this real situation of almost impossible culture clash,” Nga said.

Nga’s a producer, along with Sidney Kimmel, Steven Golin and Ira Sachs, on “Married Life,” starring Pierce Brosnan, Rachel McAdams, Patricia Clarkson and Chris Cooper. He also produced the Sundance grand jury prize-winning film “Forty Shades of Blue,” directed by Sachs, and is exec producing the Allen Ginsberg docu “Howl,” directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman.
