‘Shadows’ Macedonia’s Oscar film

Title had world premiere at Toronto fest

COLOGNE — Milcho Manchevski’s “Shadows” has been selected as Macedonia’s choice for the race for the foreign language Oscar.

Pic had its world premiere earlier this month at the Toronto Film Festival.

“Shadows” is about a doctor, whose life changes dramatically after he survives a car crash that should have killed him.

Pic is co-produced by Macedonia’s Senka Film, Bulgaria’s Sia Advertising/Camera, Italy’s Classic SRL, Spain’s Tornasol Films and Germany’s Blue Eyes. It also involves German pubcaster BR, German/French web Arte, and is distributed internationally by Bavaria Film.

The deadline for foreign film submissions is Oct. 1 and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the foreign language film nominations on Jan. 22. The Oscar ceremony takes place Feb. 24.
