Scandinavian festival offers ‘Wedding’

Annual festival opens Jan. 6 in Los Angeles

Danish Oscar entry “After the Wedding” will be featured opening night of the eighth annual Scandinavian Film Festival, which takes place in Los Angeles on the weekends between Jan. 6 – 13.

Fest annually screens the Scandinavian films submitted to the Academy as nominees for foreign-language film. This year those unspooling at the fest include Susanna Bier’s “Wedding,” Ragnar Bragason’s “Börn” (“Children”) from Iceland and Jesper Ganslandt’s “Farväl Falkenberg” (“Falkenberg’s Farewell”), Sweden’s official entry.

The non-competitive fest provides SoCal auds the chance to see new and upcoming filmmakers and features from Nordic territories.

“This is the eighth year the festival has brought ‘Northern Lights, Camera, Action!’ to Los Angeles.” says festival director and founder Jim Koenig. “We have a devoted audience of film lovers, industry professionals, and homesick Nordics eager to see what’s new from the northlands! Despite Nordic climates, Nordic film is hot!”

Special guests slated to appear include Norwegian helmer Erik Richter Strand and producer Eric Vogel, whose pic “Sons” unspools at the fest.

Fest is held at the Writers Guild Theater in BevHills.
