Scanbox moves into Sweden

Three pics greenlit

CANNES — Nordic distribution giant Scanbox Entertainment has moved into co-production in the region’s largest market, Sweden, and has greenlit investments in three pics in different stages of production.

Firm, headed by former Lakeshore topper Joni Sighvatsson, has boarded “Iskariot,” directed by Miko Lazic and co-produced with Ironwood Films; “Tjuvarnas marknad,” which cranks up over the winter under direction of Jam Guillou is co-produced by Omega Film; and “Sam citroner gula” to be helmed by Ella Lemhagen and produced by Casa Nova Film.

Scanbox will handle theatrical and home entertainment distribution throughout the Nordic region on all three.

“Scanbox is successful in co-producing motion pictures in Denmark and Norway. Now we want to take part and invest in the Swedish feature film market,” said Niklas Bengtsson, m.d. of Scanbox Entertainment.

Company has deals with Norwegian shingle Paradox and helmers including Nicolas Winding Refn in Denmark

Outfit has also optioned movie rights to Magdalena Graaf’s novel “Det ska bli ett sant noje att doda dig” for Casa Nova to develop.
