Feature trophy went to 'Waitress'
Florida’s Sarasota Film Festival announced its competition and audience awards Saturday. The ninth annual edition ran April 13-22.Feature award, went to “Waitress,” directed by Adrienne Shelly, while docu feature award went to “Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037,” directed by Benjamin Niles. Competition awards include a $5,000 cash prize for the filmmaker. Audience narrative award was given to “Canvas,” directed by Joseph Greco, while audience docu feature award went to “Circus Rosaire,” directed by Robyn Bliley. Sarah Polley’s “Away from Her” won the audience world cinema award. Fest honored Norman Jewison with its lifetime achievement award. More than 209 features and shorts screened in programs including world cinema, youth films, Jewish voices and architecture and design. Fest attracted filmmakers and talent including Elias Koteas, Zoe Cassavetes, Sophie Fiennes, Edward Norton and Steve Buscemi.
