Actress to receive Modern Master Award

Cate Blanchett will receive the Modern Master Award from the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Jan. 26.

“Portraying Queen Elizabeth and Bob Dylan in the same year — and so indelibly — is pure alchemy,” said fest executive director Roger Durling.

The Modern Master Award, created in 1995, is given every year to an individual who has enriched human culture through his or her accomplishments in the motion picture industry.

Past recipients include Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins and Peter Jackson.

The 23rd annual Santa Barbara Film Festival will run Jan. 24-Feb. 3.
