Picturehouse taps Cherkas

Executive named sr. VP operations

GreeneStreet and Miramax exec Vicki Cherkas has been named senior exec VP of operations at Picturehouse.

Cherkas, who will report directly to prexy Bob Berney, will oversee production and acquisition deals and run day-to-day business operations.

In a six-year run at GreeneStreet Films, Cherkas orchestrated deals for pics including “A Prairie Home Companion,” “Swimfan” and “In the Bedroom.” Before that, as business and legal affairs chief for Miramax Films, she put together deals for the likes of “Chicago,” “Shakespeare in Love,” “The English Patient” and “Pulp Fiction.”

Picturehouse, launched in 2005 as a joint venture of New Line and HBO, is still tallying up fairy-tale grosses for “Pan’s Labyrinth.”

Up next: “Gracie,” from “An Inconvenient Truth” helmer Davis Guggenheim; Edith Piaf biopic “La Vie en rose”; and “El cantante,” a biopic about Puerto Rican salsa pioneer Hector Lavoe, starring Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony.
