‘Persepolis’ draws international buyers

Deals include U.K., Japan

LONDON — Dreamachine has sold Cannes jury prizewinner “Persepolis” to most major territories.

Animated pic, based on Marjane Satrapi’s bestselling graphic novels about a girl growing up during Iran’s 1979 revolution, has been picked up by Optimum (U.K.), the Weinstein Co. (Australia), Prokino (Germany) and Longride (Japan).

Diaphana will release pic in Gaul on June 27.

Sony Pictures Classics will release pic Stateside in the fall with a new English-language voice cast.

Catherine Deneuve, who voices character of Satrapi’s mother in French-language original, will return for the Anglo redux, and will be joined by Gena Rowlands in the role of Satrapi’s grandmother.

The remaining cast will be announced in July.
