Palm Springs honors Joe Wright

'Atonement' director to receive Bono Award

The Palm Springs Film Festival will bestow its Sonny Bono Visionary Award to “Atonement” director Joe Wright.

Festival chairman Earl Greenburg said, “The talent Joe Wright has displayed in ‘Atonement’ and his previous film, ‘Pride & Prejudice,’ truly embodies the spirit of the Sonny Bono Visionary Award.”

Wright will join other honorees for the Jan 5 awards gala, including Sean Penn, Daniel Day-Lewis, Halle Berry and Jerry Weintraub.

Previous recipients of the award include Todd Field, M. Night Shyamalan, Baz Luhrmann and Kevin Spacey.

The 19th edition of the fest will run Jan 3-14.
