Overture Films has tapped distribution-exhibition vet Kyle Davies as exec VP of theatrical distribution as it begins gearing up to release a slate of eight to 12 films annually.
Reporting to marketing-distribution topper Peter Adee, he will be responsible for domestic distribution strategies and execution for Overture, launched last fall by CEO Chris McGurk and chief operating officer Danny Rosett as a subsidiary of Starz and Liberty Media.
Davies comes from Paramount, where he was senior VP of the Western distribution division. He joined Par following its purchase of DreamWorks, where he’d been a senior VP for distribution.
Davies has worked on “Dreamgirls,” “Mission: Impossible III,” “Over the Hedge,” “Gladiator,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “American Beauty” and both “Shrek” films. Before joining DreamWorks, he worked for exhibs including National Amusements and General Cinema.
Overture recently announced that it’s moving into production, partnering with Echo Lake Prods. on “105 Degrees and Rising.” It’s aiming to produce and acquire pics with pricetags of $30 million or less and targeted to specific audiences.
