Event dedicated to foreign filmmakers in Japan
TOKYO — The first Kansai Intl. Film Festival will take place in Osaka from Aug. 24 to 26, organizers have announced.Backed by the Osaka city government, the fest is the first to specialize in pics by foreign helmers working in Japan or making pics on Japanese themes. Some 32 pics are currently skedded to unspool at the Planet Station Theater in Osaka, including docus, shorts and features in a variety of genres, from pop to experimental. Event’s co-founders are Kobe-based filmmaker Darryl Knickrehm and Matthew Kaufman, film critic for the art-and-entertainment mag “Kansai Time.”
