NBC U, Viasat pact on film rights

Broadcaster will air 'Bourne,' 'Bridget,' 'Ray'

NBC Universal has inked a multi-year licensing agreement with Viasat for the exclusive free TV rights to a broad range of current and library feature films and TV shows for broadcast in Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

No financial details of the deal were available.

Movies in the deal include “The Bourne Supremacy,” “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” and “Ray,” as well as library features such as “About a Boy” and “American Pie 2.” In addition to feature films, Viasat Broadcasting also will have rights to NBC Universal TV series, telepics and miniseries.

TV viewers in Scandinavia will be able to watch this selection of NBC U movies and series on Scandi entertainment channels TV3, TV6, TV3+ and ZTV.

Alexander Holland, head of content, acquisition, branding and promotion at Viasat, said the deal comes “hot on the heels of Viasat’s acquisition of a strong portfolio of sports rights and further strengthens our programming schedule.”

Viasat Broadcasting is a unit of the Modern Times Group, one of the largest TV operators in Scandinavia and the Baltics.
