TORONTO — Billy Talent and Avril Lavigne wowed fans at the 18th MuchMusic Video Awards, doled out here Sunday night.
Talent took home three of the 18 statuettes, including favorite Canadian group and the nods for video and rock video, while Lavigne was voted audience fave for Canadian artist and took international video by a Canuck.
Other winners at the rowdy street party held in downtown Toronto, which airs before 100 million people around the world, were Fergie, who took international video artist; Belly with rap video; and My Chemical Romance, for international video-group and audience favorite international group.
Hilary Duff took the audience choice award for international artist.
Performers at the shindig included Duff, Fergie, Alexisonfire, Maroon5, Tara Reid and Belly, who arrived in an armored truck with a Paris Hilton look-alike.
This is the last year that the awards are being held under the Chum Television banner, as the company has been sold and split up. CTVglobemedia is taking Chum’s 21 cable channels (including MuchMusic) and seven of its smaller free-to-air stations across the country and Rogers Media taking its five Citytv channels.
