Network to extend series on global level

MTV Networks Intl. (MTVNI) is embarking on a major digital push for Comedy Central’s “South Park” at this week’s Mip TV program market in Cannes, as it looks extend the long-running animated series into a multi-platform offering globally.

Bringing the digital rights to “South Park” to the international market for the first time, MTVNI is looking to partner with mobile operators, online companies and device manufacturers to create a wide range of new digital products and services, from mobile video and online streaming to PC downloads.

“It’s hard to imagine a property better suited to digital platforms than ‘South Park,’ said Gideon Bierer, MTVNI’s senior VP, digital media.

The show is already one of the most successful properties in MTVNI’s portfolio, airing in 15 languages across 138 territories. Channels carrying the series include Viacom-owned Paramount Comedy in the U.K., Germany’s RTL and Spain’s Antena 3, and last year alone MTVNI renewed or inked new deals with 18 broadcasters.
