Company picks up film rights to graphic novel

MTV Films has picked up the feature rights to Scott Christian Sava’s forthcoming graphic novel “Hyperactive” for Benderspink to produce.

The thriller revolves around Joey Caram, a teen whose hyperactive metabolism enables him to move with incredible speed and agility and catches the attention of a pharmaceutical company that wants to extract his DNA.

“Hyperactive” marks the second project to be set up at a studio for Sava, after Disney optioned “Pet Robots,” also for Benderspink to produce. Both books were created and published by Sava through his Blue Dream Studios shingle.

Sava also has feature plans for his graphic novels “Dino Wars” and “Animal Crackers.”

No writer has yet been tapped to adapt “Hyperactive.”

“Hyperactive” will be overseen by MTV’s Will Russell-Shapiro, while Jon Silk will handle for Benderspink. Project was brought to the company by UCLA intern Josh Feldman.

Benderspink has the graphic novels “Drafted,” “Y: The Last Man” and “Power & Glory” set up at New Line, and the comicbooks “Preacher” at HBO, “The Pro” at Spike TV, and “The Ghouly Boys” at Mandate.
