Comedia fest will also screen 'Ten,' 'Toronto'

MONTREAL –The 11th Comedia, the film festival within the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal, will include a special presentation of “Mr. Bean’s Holiday” with pic’s star Rowan Atkinson in attendance.

Fest will also screen Sundance hit “The Ten” and Canuck helmer Albert Nerenberg’s documentary feature “Let’s All Hate Toronto.”

Comedia runs July 12-22 with screenings at the Imperial Theater, the Quartier Latin and the Monument National.

Atkinson has performed at the fest on a couple of occasions and, in 1989, he showcased his Mr. Bean character at one of the French galas, the first time the character was given a test-run in front of a non-English audience.

That performance convinced Atkinson that the character could travel internationally.

Helmers Danny Gold and Matthew Asner will present their documentary, “Season of the Samurai,” a look at Japanese baseball.

There will also be a number of French-language pics, including “Ma Tante Aline” from distrib Alliance Atlantis and the made-in-France “Taxi 4.”

The shorts program will include 125 pics from 16 countries, including a showcase called Best of Comedia hosted by Marlon Wayans. The programs Eat My Shorts and Eat My Twisted Shorts are also returning. There will also be shorts screened out on the street.
